The La Bella Vita Philosophy

At La Bella Vita USA, we believe that all products we sell should NOT be tested on animals, should be safe for us to use, and should be manufactured in an environmentally friendly manner. We want these products to be easily available, and affordable. We also like companies that give back to the community. Many of the companies that produce the products we sell are very active with their communities and are very charitable. These are philosophies that enable all of us to live the beautiful life...la bella vita!

The Preservative Controversy

Some ingredients are a matter of controversy in the personal care and cosmetics industry, but in this company we believe "better safe than sorry". Because there is controversy over such preservatives as methyl and propyl paraben, even the best companies who sell the highest quality, truly wonderful products choose to use them...but in tiny amounts. I can hear you now: "So why use them?" Manufacturers struggle with how to prevent bacteria and other harmful things from tainting their products while on the shelf. They believe that based on scientific research, that small amounts used will protect products from bacterial contamination, and still be safe to use. Still, some companies now use other preservatives, such as one which is a grapefruit seed oil derivative, and of course, there are others that are used...rosemary extract is another one. The parabens controversy is really over the belief by some that parabens "build up" in our system over time. One compelling argument I have seen is that in some cases of women with breast cancer, there were parabens stored in the breast tissue...leading some researchers to think there may be a link between parabens and breast cancer. Yet, many medical and scientific experts believe there is no definitive evidence that parabens cause breast cancer.

We are not medical experts at La Bella Vita and are not qualified to weigh in on a particular opinion on the subject...but we had to make that difficult choice, and we chose to avoid these ingredients. If it is simply a matter of "the jury is out", then we prefer to err on the side of caution until there is consensus among experts, that's all. We hope these issues will be resolved quickly. It is also important to note that if any product we sell here is found to be unsafe, we will immediately discontinue the item.

Safe Cosmetics

Did you know that some lipsticks contain lead? Yes, sometimes lead is found in nature along with the minerals that are the colorants in our lipsticks. The cosmetics industry has not been required to test for lead so only recently have some studies and lab testing shown that this is sometimes true...there may be lead in your lipstick. We support the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics in their efforts to put pressure on the industry to make sure beauty products are safe. Here at La Bella Vita USA, we only sell cosmetics that are safe and represent cosmetic companies who do their best to comply with the highest of standards in the industry. We check with the Environmental Working Group's "SKIN DEEP" database, (www.ewg.org) to see if our products make the "safe" list.
